The green movement continues to push its way into gaming, this time with a new Facebook title by the name of Oceanopolis. In it, you're tasked with cleaning up a tiny island, recycling all of the trash you find, and improving the island through new buildings, plant life, and other accessories. The game recently came out of a closed beta, and while it doesn't play all that differently from the majority of games on Facebook, its eco-friendly theme helps to set it apart.
You'll be spending most of your time in Oceanopolis
collecting trash and recycling that's been littered across your island. It constantly appears, so there's pretty much always something to collect. Once you have 10 of any given item--be it tin cans or plastic bottles--you can then recycle them at a kiosk located on each island. Doing this will earn you cash, which can then be used to further upgrade your island. You can buy plants, trees, and other decorations, as well as different buildings, such as a jewelry store that turns recyclables into necklaces.
You can buy multiple islands, each of which has a different theme like winter or desert, and travel between them as much as you like. Other activities in the game include collecting rain water, analyzing soil samples, and pruning plants. Each of these activities takes a specific amount of time to complete, providing some incentive to return to the game on a daily basis. Disappointingly, the game currently does not feature any sort of character customization options: you can choose from a male and female character and that's it.
At this point there isn't a whole lot to do in the game aside from collect recycling and decorate your island, but Oceanopolis is still in a relatively early state. If additional activities are added, it could turn out to be a fun game with a great green twist. We'll be keeping our eye on this game, so expect a full review soon.
